Raising a Rottweiler in the city

A Rottweiler can do well in a Chicago two-flat or condo if it gets real exercise. Plan on two solid walks a day, time at a fenced dog-friendly area, and early socialization on busy sidewalks, the L platforms, and around bikes on the Lakefront Trail. Start leash manners in the first week; a 100-pound adult that pulls is hard work in a crowd. Check your building rules and your homeowner or renter insurance before you reserve, since some policies list the breed.
